Crosswinds Grill Reviews |
Rating: 4 out of 5.
I was on an IFR Cross Country Training exercise (4 airports in 4 hours) and needed a lunch stop. I was confused by the Crosswinds Grill designator - the restaurant at KLRU is now called Jim Bobs BBQ & More. I stopped in for some lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the BBQ. They were friendly and helpful as well! I will definitely stop over again if my travels take me through Los Cruces again. Reviewed by Richard Young on 2024-01-06 |

Las Cruces was a great stop on our cross country trip to see a Space Shuttle launch in Florida. A line guy met us at the ramp & marshalled us in right in front of the restaurant (using easily the most visible flags I've ever seen). After shutting down, the marshaller plus another walked over to see what we wanted for service & to answer any questions about our stopover. We walked inside the main terminal building & found clean bathrooms & more friendly people. Even though it was 2:30 in the afternoon, the restaurant was still about half full - a good sign. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger (the "Commercial Pilot") and my wife ordered a turkey melt (the "Private Pilot" I think). Our server was friendly & quickly brought our drinks along with carafes for refills. When we first arrived, I asked one of the line guys to note how much fuel my left wing tank took to fill. Usually when you put in a special request like this, it's forgotten. However, before we even got our food, the line guy politely dropped by our table & told me exactly how much fuel my left tank took. Great! The food was delivered timely exactly as ordered. The burger looked hand made (TLC even for a burger - nice!) and was delicious. The fries were ok. My wife also enjoyed her sandwich. It made a good meal to keep us going the rest of the day. With both of us fed, we walked to the front counter to pay. Our fuel ticket was ready & waiting at the same counter. Easy. If my rating was based only on the food, I'd give the Crosswinds Grill a 3 - good & worth flying here to eat. But with the all-around great service in every aspect of our stop, I've given them a 4. We'll be back! Reviewed by Bryan Duke on 2008-03-14 |
