94th Aero Squadron at Montgomery Field (MYF) Rating: 4 out of 5. Apparently at one time, you could park just behind the restaurant near the approach end of runway 23. The ground controller today told us that there was currently no parking near the 94th Aero Squadron. We parked at transient parking on the south side of 28L and met some friends who drove us around to the north side of the airfield to the restaurant. The decor is great - very 1920's retro. We sat inside the restaurant. Even mid-day the lighting was so dim that we could barely read our menus. They have a fairly big seating area out back where you could watch the runway 23 & other airfield traffic. Three of the people in our group had the "Officer's Club" - a smoked turkey & swiss club, served with a bowl of cut fruit. Two of the people in our group had the French Dip. Everyone loved the Officer's Club & French Dip. I had a cheeseburger & fries. The fries were great, but the burger (ordered medium-well) was charred & only average tasting at best. Overall, the 94th gets a "Very good" rating with some items above that rating & some below. We'll definitely be back & recommend it as a stop in beautiful San Diego. Nat's Coffee Shop at Jack Northrop Field/Hawthorne Muni (HHR) Rating: 2 out of 5. Nat's is like a trip back to a 1960s coffeeshop. Service was good. The food was unexceptional. Price was reasonable. Be aware that the FBO may charge ramp fees, so call ahead to find out. If you want to take a walk after eating, the Beach Boys Monument is just a few blocks away (north out of the building, left -- west -- on 120th St. past the freeway on/offramp, then right -- north -- on Kornblum. The Monument is one block up at the end of Kornblum at 119th. Reviewed by Art Friedman on 2009-07-02 |

Todd's at Ryan Field at Ryan Field (RYN) Rating: 5 out of 5. Pam and I flew in to Ryan field for breakfast. She had the eggs benedict with home made hollandaise sauce with nopal cactus flavor in the sauce. I had the Nopal omelette. Both were fabulous. The family service was friendly and efficient. We both felt pampered. Todd came out from the kitchen twice to talk to us. Can't wait to try the other original offerings on the menu. This is a must stop for all pilots. Oh, prices were very reasonable and you can taxi right up to the door. Reviewed by jon trachta on 2009-06-29 |
