Harris Ranch Restaurant Reviews

Always a great stop. Narrow and shorter strip. We dropped in for the Harris Ranch Express BBQ in the Shell station with the kids, so I can't speak to the main restaurant. The Express BBQ was great though.

It's all about the beef here. Just be careful on the downwind leg because even at 1,000 AGL, it's clear that you're downwind of something!

10% discount for AOPA members. This restaurant is one of the reasons I keep my AOPA card in my flight bag.

Still one of the best - the horseradish steak salad is phenomenal. Good service, rustic atmosphere. Higher prices that most places - but WORTH it!

Neat place to fly into and one of the very few you know you've arrived because of the smell in the area. I always eat in the Kitchen instead of the Steakhouse, but the food is still really good. I've been told it's even better in the Steakhouse. The restaurant has always been clean, service is good, and they provide plenty of food.

The Harris Ranch Restaurant is really comprised of two complete restaurants: The Ranch Kitchen & the Steakhouse. This trip we ate at The Steakhouse and it definitely makes my "must stop" list. My wife & I flew there for dinner & a night at the Inn and had a stomach filling, relaxing & enjoyable time.

After landing, we grabbed our bags & walked over to the Inn. It's a fairly short walk to the Inn (less than 1/4 mile), but there's a phone just outside the gate to call the Inn's front desk for a shuttle. Unless you like walking or packed light, a call for the shuttle is a great option (we did take the shuttle back to our plane when we left). At check-in to the Inn, Ursula at the front desk was kind enough to make a dinner reservation at the Steakhouse for us.

We relaxed in our room for an hour or so, changed out of our grubby flying clothes & made our way to the Steakhouse. The host seated us immediately in a quiet corner booth of the restaurant. Our server Beth quickly greeted us & suggested a wine based on the type we requested. We enjoyed the wine & two types of bread while waiting for our dinners. The atmosphere was very nice - as expected from an upscale steakhouse. I had a Caesar salad (great) and my wife had a garden salad (great). Our steaks were both slightly undercooked for what we wanted, but both had excellent flavor. The serving sizes for the steak & sides were more than ample. Their dessert tray had some great looking choices, but we decided to try out the selection from General Store (in the same building) instead.

We picked up several truffles & macaroons from the General Store & brought them back to our room. Wonderful.

The one down side to the Steakhouse is the price. My 10oz Filet Mignon dinner cost about $40. This is steep for a normal fly-in restaurant, but this isn't a normal fly-in restaurant. The Ranch Kitchen shares the same supply of beef and is priced more in the “normal fly-in restaurant” range.

Also of note, the Ranch Kitchen is open from 6am until 11pm daily while the Steakhouse is open from 5:30pm until 9pm (10pm Friday & Saturday).

If you want the freshest, tastiest beef this side of Kobe Japan, take the trip to Harris Ranch. Not cheap, but well worth the price if you're a steak connoisseur. Everything is top notch - food, atmosphere, service.

The transient parking is about 100 yards from the restaurant. Easy walk. The runway is short and narrow (2820X30 feet) -but very smooth and is right next to the I-5. And I mean right next to it!

The location is in the middle of cow country, so initially the olfactory senses might feel overwhelmed. No worries, the restaurant doesn't have that problem.

Harris Ranch is almost always a good stop. The runway can be a little narrow in a cross-wind, and departing out of there at night to the northwest you'd better good on the gauges for the first 3-400 feet because there's nothing out front of you but a big black void. The food is usually good, but we stopped going here for quite some time because they didn't have their act together sufficiently well to get food to you while it was still hot on the weekends. Being a busy truck-stop on the I-5, the place gets seriously crowded on weekends. They seem to have recovered though and once again it's a favorite stop on the way to or from Socal.

Good hamburger, also saw a tasty-looking brisket being served. Lunch is served in the bar -- no need for the expensive restaurant.

Runway is narrow, but was just resurfaced. 5 minute walk from tie-downs to food.

The restaurant is very good and the beef is, as you'd expect, fresh & tasty. I gave this restaurant a "5" not so much for the restaurant itself, but for the country store. The store sells the freshest cuts of Harris Ranch beef. All the best stuff. If you want tasty on a budget, the "Citrus Heat Grilling Tenders" are the shiznit. I'm also a huge fan of the Beer & Spice Tri-Tip. I stop here pretty much every time I'm on my way home from NorCal. Well worth it.
