Melita's Motel & Restaurant Reviews |
Rating: 3 out of 5.
This cafe is located just across the highway from the airport parking area...about a 100 yard walk. Melita's has been there forever and is adjacent to a decent motel. This is a perfect place to lay over in case of a wx problem keeping one from crossing the Cascades. The food and service are good, helping sizes average, and being in a rural area the prices are quite reasonable. Landing at Chiloquin is routine: To the North you have minimal obstacles and lots of runway before you arrive at the parking area, which is on the West side: to the South you will have a steeper approach to clear the hill, roll out downhill, and possibly arrive at the parking area before you're ready to turn off. Keep in mind the density altitude in warm weather and be advised taking off to the North is usually only done with a strong North wind. Takeoffs are generally accomplished to the South. The hill at the North end of the runway often harbors a "sinker" in warm wx and could be an unwelcome twist to an uphill anemic Northerly takoff. Taking off to the South, you have the option of following the river in the event you haven't achieved a comfortable altitude on departure. Reviewed by Dan Meler on 2008-05-03 |
