The DC-3 Reviews

Rating: 4 out of 5.
The food is fresh, great and the view can't be beat. Runway could use some work - and there is a parking fee of $25. But it's worth it. Look for the DC3 to land - it's quite a site if you haven't seen one before.

The name of the restaurant is now the DC3 Grill (see http://www.catalinadc3.com/ ). It is a great flying destination with friends, who will ooh and aah over a flight around the island. The summer all-you-can-eat BBQs (see website for dates) are not to be missed. (Just don't arrive over gross or you may not be able to leave for a few days). Everyday food is worthy as well, and there is a nice gift shop. The view from the patio is stunning, often with bison grazing below. The visual cues on approach and departure have confused many pilots; the bumpy runway slopes uphill for the first 2/3rds of its 3000-foot length arriving on 22, then levels off, making it appear that you are arriving at the end before you do. There is a $25 landing fee (or a card for three for $60). Be aware that there is a curfew on departures (as early as 5 p.m., depending on season. Ask when you pay your landing fee. There is a shuttle bus that will take you to Avalon.
